Forstmann Tilly Heitner vintage 1950s taupe virgin wool fur caped sleeves coat

Description

This is a 1950s or late 1940s 100 percent virgin wool coat from Forstmann. The designer was Tilly Heitner. I would call the color taupe, that is, gray with a touch of brown. The sleeve design is unusual. There is what I would call an undersleeve that is a simple three-quarter-length design. Over the sleeve there is a gathered "cape." This "cape" features fur that comes to a dramatic point. I believe this is the head of the animal. Please see photos. This coat measures about 16 inches shoulder to shoulder; about 20 inches armpit to armpit; about 41 inches shoulder to hem; and about 42 inches the length of the center back. This coat was worn by my mother, who was petite. I would guess it would be a size small or maybe medium. It is in very good condition. The only flaw I can see is that there are stains on the lining in the back; please see photo. These stains do not carry through to the coat fabric. This beautiful vintage coat is from a no-smoking, no-pets home.
